Kong is a proudly-independent, 35-year-running unisex streetwear and skate-wear company, located in the City Centre, of Coventry. They deliver "a hand-curated selection of unisex streetwear and skate-wear from the most reputable brands in the world". They have a website where online orders can be placed, but proceed with caution, as your bank account may rapidly deplete if you stay on the website for too long. In-store, they create a relaxed atmosphere with good vibes and offer expert knowledge and advice to all customers.Â
Before I could even lay my eyes on an item I'd imagine purchasing, I was welcomed into the shop being asked "How are you today?" I have several deadlines that I can realistically reach if I don't sleep at all for 3 days but I'm okay, how about you?...is what I wanted to say. Moving on. The rawness of the cork, contrasted with the foliage, Smino playing through the speakers, this, is the place to be for my personal retail therapy. Everything in Kong is home to me, it all feels so familiar and connected to who I am as a teenager in Coventry.
They differentiate from other streetwear/skate-wear companies as "a lot of brands we stock aren't stocked in other stores" This has been the foundation for the 35-year-old institution and one of the reasons why the brand has maintained longevity whilst staying independent. Even though they may stock the same brands as other companies on the high street, they stock rare, unique and sought-after items you can't find in many other places.
